Solution To use Outlook 2011 with mac you will have to configure imap

Tools\accounts\imap

Server Information
User – full email address
p/w - your password

incoming server – imap.gmail.com
check “Use SSL to connect (recommended) (grayed out port should be 993)

Outgoing server -smtp.gmail.com
check “Use SSL to connect (recommended) (grayed out port should be 25)

more options button -
authentication – use incoming server info (everything else empty)
